Wilderness Medic
A thorough course specific to those who may have to manage a casualty for extended periods (1-3 days). Evaluation and patient care skills are taught to improvise and treat fractures, dislocations, injury syndromes, spinal, abdominal emergencies and environmental challenges.
Detailed recordings are documented for handover to Rescue Services. Skills are also learnt to operate rescue equipment so you understand concepts such as spinal immobilisation, traction splinting and advanced life support. These concepts are improvised in the outdoors but can
also be used to help Emergency Services when they arrive.
For those who:
1. Seek advanced knowledge on extended care for prolonged periods
2. Are regularly in the outdoors for extended periods especially in isolated areas where help may be days away
3. Regularly spend extended periods with clients in isolated regions
4. Are employed or whose recreational pursuits are in challenging outdoor environments
5. Are professionals / volunteers who respond to emergencies in extreme environments, e.g. alpine or underground.
